Dear log, here is my entry for epoch 1594656518,
time for another summary of my adventures of the last week! Starting with some exciting stuff around CasinoCoin, if you are a nerd.
Some of you might remember that I have been on and off about the infrastructure changes. I did quite a bit on that topic already but couldn’t finish it in one shot. That’s mainly because of how I work. While I do have a list of To-Do’s, it gets changed almost on an hourly base. Stuff always gets a new priority and something that is urgent today is at the bottom of the list the very next one. I got used to it but for people that are following what I do, it can get quite depressing.
However, I finally started moving validators around. From the old systems, we got almost three years ago, to new hardware that’s quite decent in size and should be around the same as most XRPL Validators. I also decided to get rid of the locations in Singapore and Australia for now. One reason is the high latency to get overseas, the other one is that it doesnt add any benefits as of now. Short term we will cut the number of validators from 25 down to 10 and will go back up to 15 mid-term. I just need to find decent locations at a good price. The number of standby systems will stay the same. The way we handle wallet servers will change as well, but that will be done once I reallocated some of our APIs and the explorer. It’s down since last Friday as I moved it do a different Data Center. I hope to get it back up and running later today.
I finished the bits I could on CRNInfo and we are waiting on the devs for some fancy math issues to be fixed. I am pushing for this on a daily base.
CasinoCoin is now listed on https://blocktivity.info/ and as of the time writing this, we are on rank #19. This should increase over the next months. A driver for this is TrustTracker, the more Casinos use it, the more transaction output we will see. Getting listed was an effort by the community and I would like to personally thank everyone who made it happen. Thanks a lot, guys!
There are some other things happening that touch CSC, I might be able to speak about those next week.
Crazy8Token is making some good progress and I have to bite my tongue to not spoil anything, I want to leave everything up to the team. While there are still one or two hurdles to jump over, things start looking very good again. The latest wallet version I have seen is pretty slick. I spent a full day testing their backend as well. Stuff is moving. It’s hard to estimate anything but my suggestion still is: Take as much time as needed, rather rushing this thing to market.
I got a couple of questions regarding Cammegh after them sending a tweet out two weeks ago using the hashtag #casinocoin:
As I haven’t talked to them for a long time, I reached out to them this morning but haven’t heard back yet. The slingshot mentioned in that tweet was showcased at ICE2020. In case you haven’t seen how Cammegh will work with the CSCL, here is a short video I recorded earlier this year:
I will keep you posted if I can share anything.
I am not entirely sure why, but over that last days, I see a significant uptick on “we need to get listed on more exchanges” talks again. I want to be straight up honest: I hate those conversations, I am happy to explain why:
Exchanges do not add anything from an adoption point of view. Especially at the current state, we are at. All they do is stir up hype and speculation. If the exchange is big enough, people will fomo in and this will create a pump followed by a dump. It is always the same. And being a crypto guy I understand this but this won’t help us. Let me tell you how talks with exchanges usually go:
Every exchange will tell you how awesome the project is, that they love the team, and the people involved, and admire the engagement of the community. Then one of the following things happen:
a) Please fill out this form. We do and never hear back.
b) Please fill out the form, we understand you don’t pay for listings but we need you to pay this 5-digit fee. Because while we told you for hours we love crypto, what we love even more is hard cash. We agree on another call. We never hear back.
c) We get told they will sort out a couple of things. We never hear back.
There are some exchanges that would list us for anything from 0.25BTC to 1BTC. Those are usually smaller than Bitrue and/or are not known to the community, hence no one will use them. Who would pay the listing fee for something that is a dead-end from the get-go? We had this type of situation before. At the current state, it doesn’t make any sense to approach the big guys. I planned to but things got shaken up worldwide because of COVID. I am keeping an eye on our situation. As long as we don’t have a stable volume of around ~500k a day, we are simply not ready unless we have some ace’s up our sleeve.
That doesn’t mean I want you to slow down! Keep the pressure up, that’s that we need. So far you have done an awesome job, let’s keep it that way! We are one of the most vocal community without being annoying. We need to keep it that way. <3
I broke TrustTracker for a couple of hours. Well, technically I didn’t really break it but pushed it to a point where its self-healing capacities failed and things halted. It took us some time to debug the exact issue and how I caused it, but we were able to deploy some fixes which make things more robust. While I can’t go into detail what I did exactly, I can tell you that it was a great lesson and led to several changes.
You guys might have already figured there is another casino coming up and we want to be sure there won’t be any issues. I still want to see a couple of changes to the infrastructure and how everything interacts but so far it looks pretty solid. Looking forward to seeing 100k transactions a day and more casinos onboarded.
(Me watching the magic happen)
They are now also selling this awesome high-quality caps! Get yours! Merch is always a cool thing.
I didn’t have any time to do a stream last Sunday, I hope I will be able to do one this week.
