Dear log here is my entry for epoch 1596491939,
late again, this post is coming in late again…
CSCL / CasinoCoin
The week did fly by. Not sure if that is the new normal or if I am just getting old. Guess what kept me busy: Infrastructure changes. People might now think: Wait, why the fuck is this ongoing for weeks now? Is he migrating some sort of Google styled Data Center? He must be kidding.
The truth is, I can never spend like a full day on these things. Sometimes something goes horribly wrong, which did happen last week. This means I am on and off with those tasks. I hate it, but that’s how it goes. If only clones would be a real thing.
I managed to migrate Testnet. And I mean all of it. I wish that would be the end of the story but the host who now runs it will have to be replaced later this month. I did all the preparation and it’s now sitting there waiting for me. I will take the chance and do some stress tests to see how well it would perform. It is not necessary but I love to test those kinds of things when I get a chance. Monitoring is still an issue for me, while I have the 55″ screen ready to be mounted at my wall, I am not happy with the solution of monitoring bare metal. It’s causing me some real headache and I will have to squeeze in some time to figure a better solution or I won’t sleep at night. The new setup for our wallet servers will be rolled out this week, at least that’s my plan. Other than that, just the usual work which means: keep things up and running.
After shutting our old validators down last week, we figured that Bitrue apparently did not update their validators.txt. This resulted in a couple of hours processing any deposits or withdrawals on their end. We did a workaround by just firing the old systems back up, which I luckily had not been deleted by then. After sending some friendly reminders, they got their systems straight the very next day. I forwarded some issues that had been reported by the community and as far as I know, all of them are solved by now. Moving forward, I will triple check with services on requested changes to ensure this won’t happen again. With the v5 of the daemon, an issue like this one should not happen anyways.
I promised all CRN wallets would have been unlocked by now but this didn’t happen. It is on the list for this week, again. I think people are happy to hear that I did record the video for Nano Ledger and got everything ready for the submission.
I have been asked if we could integrate PayID into the wallets and even got some nice instructions. I added that to our dev list but can’t give an estimation on it yet.
This sometimes feels like one step forward and two steps back. One day we will be able to laugh about it. One major issue that came up last week, again, at the very last minute, was solved in theory today. Coding now needs to follow and stuff should be back on track. The team came up with another solution to make integration easier for operators, as some might not be able to make some of our requested modifications to their internal backends. Pretty proud of the workaround.
People spotted me buying transactions last week and there had been some confusion about it. I am amazed on how much time people spend looking at the explorers, analyzing every single transaction, reading memos, and trying to decrypt them if they are encrypted.
This often leads to confusion as stuff is overestimated or just interpreted in a wrong way. The reason we don’t want to comment on stuff while it is being worked on is: It always leads to more questions. Same goes for the CR8 Team
But in this case, let me clear a few things up.
The CR8 Wallet only shows CR8. There is no mention of CSC or any way. This is intentional as it keeps things easy and should not be hard to understand for non-crypto people.
The lobby is clean and only shows your balance, obviously the most important info, along with a list of operators you are allowed to gamble with. The list can vary from user to user based on their location. Not every operator will be able to serve every country.
The ones you see will accept you as a player. You can tap them for more information about them before you decide to sign up.
If you run out of transactions, you can simply buy more with the CR8 you own. As a player, you don’t need to worry about “gas” all you need to know is: I can do a certain amount of transactions before I need to buy more.
You will always have enough CSC left to do the necessary transaction, which means you will never be trapped or locked. The wallet takes care of that. It is also almost impossible to miss your available transactions as the counter is placed very prominently on the Send tab.
If you did run out of transactions, just hit buy.
You will be offered to buy anything between 10 transactions minimum, up to 100 transactions maximum.
As you can see on the screenshot, 100 transactions would cost you ~$0.025 implying an exchange of ~$0.01 cent per CR8.
Select the desired amount of transactions and hit buy. The CR8 will be sent to an Opibis and the API will send you the CSC back.
That’s it. Easy as pie.
The goal is to keep it as smooth as possible for non-crypto people. We will not able to get rid of ledger fundamentals and one of them is: every transaction does come with a fee. In my opinion, the is pretty slick and straight forward. You don’t even have to really explain it. People these days know that most financial transactions do come with a fee.
Playing around with TTT has become one of my favorite things to do and most of the time it turns out to be great. This wasn’t the case last Tuesday. Because of a typo in a new validator config, I pulled in via one of my management scripts, I caused the network to reject all TrustTracker transactions for around 30 minutes. While this was going on, data had been queued on the API and was sent out as soon as I noticed and corrected my error.
It is important to note that this only caused validators to not validate those transactions, it did not affect the existence of the token itself. While mistakes like these should not happen, they do under very rare circumstances. That’s why it is important to have some failsafe mechanisms in place to ensure they get caught before something really bad happens. Yeah, I am patting my back here for solving a problem I caused in the first place…
We did another change in the underlying API systems and have reviewed the whole architecture of it. Based on some math I did, we could hit limitations with a couple of million transactions a day. Looking at the conversations that are currently ongoing I want to avoid the API becoming a bottleneck. Some major changes to transaction processing have been scheduled for the end of the month.
RockNRolla Casino has been officially added to TrustTracker as one happy Andrew announced on Twitter, after having some Justin Sun styled announcement of an announcement last Friday. We identified an issue when parsing bets under specific circumstances and working on a fix. It is pretty rare and I hope to see it being fixed this week.
I came in second at the Bitrue Community Awards, according to you guys as the “Second Most Helpful User”.
I feel blessed and want to thank everyone who voted for me. In addition, CasinoCoin made it in on Rank 2 for “Best Coin” right after XRP. I guess we have one year to push ourselves to the top. Amazing work by the community. If would have to vote on the best one, I would defo pick you guys. Well done everyone!
Yesterday’s stream was pretty successful and I feel there was a better interaction between the chat and me. More like a natural conversation. I like that, we should keep it that way. For those who haven’t seen it: Shame on you, better save the date next time. Check my schedule in order to be around next time!
We played eGF slots and had a pretty good time. Check the highlight video to catch the spirit. We even had Daniel Simons with us. Great fun!
Speaking of the next stream: Sunday the 10th of August, I will stream the big “eGF Sports Night”. We will play all sport-themed slots at once and go after the big wins. In addition, I will give ways some CSC and GFG merch, stuff you can not buy anywhere! A dedicated post for this will follow! Looking forward to seeing ALL of you!
On a side note, I do enjoy the Twitch stuff, and “we” are working on something to put it to the next level. Stay tuned and make sure to follow…
